New York City isn’t exactly short on beautiful rooftop bars with stunning views of the city skyline, and one of the most spectacular NYC rooftops (in my opinion!) is the breathtaking Glass Ceiling Rooftop restaurant and bar in Midtown Manhattan.

This picturesque rooftop is reminiscent of a stunning greenhouse, perched 5 stories high in the NoMad neighbourhood of New York City. With incredible views of the Empire State Building, an epic brunch menu, and a truly gorgeous rooftop setting, Glass Ceiling Rooftop should definitely be on your New York itinerary!

The Glass Ceiling Rooftop NYC

The Glass Ceiling Rooftop NYC

Glass Ceiling Rooftop is a gorgeous secret garden rooftop, located on Broadway, between West 29th and West 30th Streets, right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

Not only does its central location provide epic views of the Empire State Building and other surrounding skyscrapers, but it’s also located just a few hundred metres from some of my other favourite NYC rooftop bars, including 230 Fifth, The Fleur Room at Moxy Chelsea, Sandbar Rooftop, Somewhere Nowhere, and ART NoMad.

The rooftop itself is absolutely beautiful, with expansive glass window panes on both the walls and ceiling, and it also has a sizeable outdoor terrace boasting remarkable up-close views of the Empire State Building.

The Glass Ceiling Rooftop is not only an Instagrammer’s dream, but I also believe that it’s 100% worth visiting for the food and drink alone, especially the bottomless brunch menu (more on that below!).

Glass Ceiling Rooftop bottomless brunch

When I first saw the menu at Glass Ceiling NYC, I was so excited to visit as it includes some of my absolute favourite dishes, including charcuterie sharing boards, flatbreads/pizza, burgers, croissants, and more.

The only problem I had was deciding what to order! Most dishes are relatively reasonably priced (especially by New York standards), with most things priced between $16 and $20.

Most cocktails are priced between $18 and $21, which may seem expensive, but again, this is actually very standard for most New York City rooftops.

As well as their brunch and standard food menu, Glass Ceiling also offer a 3-course prix fixe dinner menu for just $45 per person, which is very reasonable for an NYC rooftop bar.

Highlights on the prix fixe dinner menu include starters such as shrimp cocktail and charcuterie plates, main dishes such as smashed burgers and chicken kebab, and desserts such as tiramisu and chocolate mousse.

If there’s one thing I love more than brunch, it’s a boozy bottomless brunch, so I was absolutely thrilled to discover that Glass Ceiling offers their very own version of bottomless brunch, right in the heart of Manhattan!

For just $35 per person for 90 minutes, you can enjoy the choice of DIY mimosas (with the choice of 5-6 different accompanying fruit juices) or house-made red or white sangria. You can opt for the drinks alone, or better yet, choose a brunch dish to accompany it.

During our visit to Glass Ceiling NYC, we had to go for the bottomless DIY mimosas to go with our brunch dishes. I opted for the berry compote juice to go with my unlimited prosecco, while Matt chose the classic orange juice. The mimosa juice flavours vary depending on seasonality and availability, but they usually always have 5-6 juices to choose from, including flavours such as pear, pineapple, pomegranate, peach, and grapefruit.

The brunch menu is almost the same as the regular dining menu at Glass Ceiling, with a few extra additions of classic brunch dishes such as pancakes, avocado on toast, and salads.

As soon as I saw the rose gold pancakes on the menu, I knew my choice was already made; not only did they sound pretty, but with the serving of berries, maple syrup, and whipped cream, I was hopeful they would taste good, too!

Thankfully for me, they were truly some of the yummiest pancakes I’ve ever had! They were super light and fluffy and the combination of the fresh summer berries and maple syrup was truly divine! If you’re thinking of booking bottomless brunch at Glass Ceiling, I really couldn’t recommend my order of DIY mimosas and rose gold pancakes enough!

Matt decided to opt for a slightly healthier brunch dish of smashed avocado on toast with sun dried tomato, chili, cilantro, charred lime, and a fried egg. I didn’t actually try Matt’s dish as I absolutely cannot stand the taste of cilantro (coriander), but it’s one of Matt’s favourite flavours, and he said he was very impressed by his choice!

Brunch/bottomless brunch at Glass Ceiling is available on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 AM to 4 PM. Reservations are not required, but are strongly recommended. Remember to order the pancakes and thank me later!

FAQs

If you’re still not sure whether Glass Ceiling Rooftop NYC is the right choice for you, hopefully the frequently asked questions section below will answer any queries you may still have about this fabulous New York City rooftop!

Is there a cover charge for visiting the rooftop?

There is no cover charge for visiting Glass Ceiling NYC, and no minimum spend required.

Do they allow guests under 21?

Glass Ceiling welcomes families with kids aged under 21, but they are usually required to leave before 6 PM. However, according to the staff at the rooftop restaurant, they do occasionally make exceptions for guests dining with under 21s, even after 6 PM, so I would advise getting in touch with the team via the Glass Ceiling website to double-check.

Personally, I would advise against visiting with very young children as I feel like it is a venue catered more towards couples, friends’ nights out, and special occasions.

Do you need a valid ID to visit the rooftop?

Despite allowing under 21s, Glass Ceiling NoMad does require a valid ID for the purchase/consumption of alcohol, so I would advise bringing your passport or driving licence as a form of identification when visiting Glass Ceiling.

Can you see the Empire State Building from the Glass Ceiling?

Can you see the Empire State Building from the Glass Ceiling restaurant NYC?

Despite being only 5 stories tall, Glass Ceiling Rooftop boasts incredible views of the Empire State Building, especially from the outdoor seating area. You can still see the Empire State Building and part of the Manhattan skyline from the indoor restaurant as the entire place is covered in floor-to-ceiling glass windows (hence the name!), but the views are definitely better if you’re sat outside!

Do you need to make a reservation to visit the Glass Ceiling Rooftop?

Walk-ins are accepted and welcomed at the Glass Ceiling, but reservations are strongly encouraged, especially for brunch between 11 AM and 4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays as it tends to get booked up quickly.

Is there a dress code for visiting the rooftop?

Glass Ceiling Rooftop describe their dress code as “casual chic comfort”, with the recommendation of dressing smart and sophisticated, without being too business formal.

As a frame of reference, I wore a leopard-print body suit, with a black skirt, white blazer, and smart white trainers, while Matt wore a plain white t-shirt, dark blue jeans, and smart dark blue trainers.

Conclusion – Glass Ceiling restaurant NYC

I hope you’ve found my review of Glass Ceiling Rooftop useful and I hope it’s encouraged you to add this fantastic rooftop to your New York itinerary! I’ve been lucky enough to experience many of the city’s rooftop bars, but Glass Ceiling genuinely is one of my absolute favourites, for the views, food, and overall ambience/atmosphere!
